Dog Training + Human Coaching

We train the whole dog for real life. And we teach you how to do it, too.

Here’s the thing: it doesn’t really matter what we can do with your dog if you can’t do it too.

Sure, we want your dog to have useful skills, absolutely. But we also want those skills to work on the neighborhood walk, when friends come over, out on a hike, or when something far more interesting than you appears across the street.

That means looking at more than obedience. We consider the dog’s wants, needs, lifestyle, fulfillment, ability to handle excitement, skills, communication and relationship with you,  because all of those pieces effect the life you live with them

And while we’re working with your dog, we’re teaching you how to understand and work with them, too.

Because the goal isn’t for us to be really good at training your dog.

The goal is for you to be really good at living life together.

We Train the Whole Dog for Real Life

We’re dog trainers. Of course we teach dogs new skills.

Leash walking. Recall. Place. Waiting at doors. Settling. How to make better choices when life gets exciting.

Those skills absolutely matter, but they're often not the whole answer.

Sometimes the dog who seems like they need more exercise actually needs more rest. The dog who “won’t listen” may not understand what’s being asked. And the dog who knows exactly what you want in the kitchen may genuinely struggle to do the same thing when the world gets more exciting.

So we zoom out.

We look at your dog’s everyday life, what fulfills them, how they handle excitement and frustration, what skills they actually understand, how clearly everyone is communicating and what might be making things harder.

Sometimes that means training obedience.

Sometimes it looks like changing things up a bit; play, sniffing, movement, calmness, confidence-building or changing something about your dog’s day-to-day routine.

And sometimes, your dog really does just need us to teach them a better skill to handle something.

But, usually, the answer lives somewhere in between,  and our job is to find the right combination for the dog in front of us.

There’s a Framework Behind It

LEASH 1-Pageer (8).png

We call it the TDS LEASH Framework™

LEASH gives us a way to look at five interconnected parts of your dog’s life:

Life Rhythm & Health,

Enrichment & Fulfillment,

Arousal Regulation,

Skills & Communication,

and

Human Connection.

They aren’t steps. We don't “finish” one and move on to the next. They're influencing each other all the time, and they give us better places to look when something isn't working.

The framework helps us understand the whole picture, giving us a better place to start.

We Coach The Humans Too

Because it doesn’t matter what we can do with your dog if you don’t feel confident doing it, too.

We want you to understand what we’re teaching, why we’re teaching it, and what to do when real life inevitably doesn’t go according to plan.

That doesn't mean turning you into a professional dog trainer.

It means helping you understand your dog a little better; how to communicate clearly, what to reinforce, when to step in, when to give them space, how to practice the skills we're building, and how to recognize when your dog is telling you, “I can't do this yet.”

We don't expect perfect handling. We don't expect perfect dogs, either.

We want you to leave training feeling like you have the tools to keep moving forward without us standing next to you.

What Does That Look Like at Tri-Dog?

We may use obedience, play, movement, calmness exercises, confidence-building, socialization or real-world practice, but you’ll always know what we’re working on, why we’re working on it, and how to carry it into your day-to-day life.

Every Tri-Dog program includes coaching for you, too.

Because we don't want training to become another thing you have to manage.

We want it to make living with your dog easier.

We offer multiple program options:

- In Your Home Lessons

- Drop-Off Day Training

- Overnight Training Camps

But each and every program includes coaching you right alongside your dog.

The Goal is Living More Life With your Dog

Approach

Not a perfect dog, not a robot, and definitely not a dog who only behaves when the trainer is around.

We want you to enjoy the neighborhood walks, the adventures, more freedom, less frustration, ad better communication.

The ability to take your dog places, or simply enjoy doing absolutely nothing together.

Whatever your version of a good life with your dog looks like, that's what we want your training to support.

Train the whole dog. Coach the human. Build a better life together.
